As a team, we’re constantly working toward creating something unexpected or unprecedented. Whether it is design, a strategy, an experience, or a written piece we strive to create something worth making. Experimenting with unique tools, breaking the rules, and looking through the lens of an artful perspective are some of the ways our studio breaks out of predictable conventions to create meaningful work.
As a designer, I’ve often looked for inspiration from other designers and artists who also break the rules. While at MICA, I was fortunate enough to have taken Keetra Dean Dixon’s class called Process Lab, which focused on the process of exploration, facing design road-blocks, and self-assessment.
Keetra Dean Dixon is a Designer, Director, and Artist. Her hybrid design background and expertise in graphic design often leads her work toward speculative terrain, leveraging emerging technologies and the shortcomings of ubiquitous creative tools.
Dixon is not only interested in engaging in unexpected practices, but also utilizing unexpected materials and methods; forcing you to approach an idea or a design with a different lens then you might have otherwise.
An artist is someone who truly thinks beyond the bounds of their canvas. They follow their instincts and make decisions that might intimidate the less creative. We should always celebrate the daring imagination and fortitude of all types of artists, from all walks of life.
